The most over looked aspect
of security in from within most organizations,
businesses and homes is the threat from within.
A simple example of this is the bank teller. The
bank spends a fortune on protecting the bank
from robbers with guns, then overlooks the
person on the other side of the counter. OK in
today's world of small and cheap surveillance
cameras it is not so easy for the bank teller to
steal from the cash draw, but it only takes a
few clicks of a mouse button to change someone's
balance. Look around next time you are in the
bank or even the local grocery store, you will
notice cameras both looking at you and where the
money is ( cash draw ).
But what stops a bank clerk from just pushing
those few buttons and becoming rich beyond
belief?
The first thing is most people are honest and
hard working and do not need to be checked on,
but even these people do need to have an eye
kept on them. Why? Well because everyone makes
an honest mistake, in a bank forgetting to hit
the decimal point or having a faulty one, causes
your 300.00 ( three hundred ) deposit, to become
a 30,000 ( thirty thousand ) deposit. I have
actually seen this happen once, luckily the
transaction was between friends and could cover
the transaction. The bank rectified this as soon
as it was pointed out to them, but think of what
could have happened.
Now that is an honest mistake, but it would be
so easy to do this on purpose and this is why
you need internal security. This is the real
reason most stores have cameras, they stop the
temptation. This does not always work, but then
their are stupid people who forget the
cameras are there and still take from the till. |
